Being a guy means never having to say you’re sorry — at least not out loud. We’re expected to be the one’s making the first move, the one’s taking chances. Sitting back and letting someone else make decisions for our gender just ain’t done.

And women may not give us long looks on the street or come up to us when we’re sitting in a bar, but that’s okay. Remember what W.C. Fields said about standing on a street corner and trying to date pretty women as they went by: You’ll get slapped a lot, but you’ll probably also get a date.

The benefits of being a boy
Because we take the lead, men enjoy some perks that women don’t: It’s taken for granted that we work harder so we’re paid more for the work we do, and there aren’t any glass ceilings! Dealing with other men doesn’t get bogged down in feelings and sharing; instead, we instinctively understand that our relationships with each other are based on rules as solid as sports regulations.

No worrying about our appearance. No obsessing that our look is out of style; men don’t care if stripes make us look slimmer; men don’t care if our noses are shiny. And do we get moody just because we don’t like a new hairstyle? Some of us just wish we had the hair to cut!

That’s not to say we should get sloppy, but even if we do it’s okay because we’re guys! It’s expected, just like telling bad jokes and the occasionally burp or worse.

Age isn’t a problem either. Guys with gray are considered distinguished, and we’re not expected to act or dress like 20-year olds even though we’re in our 30’s and 40’s. The “youth culture” that society values so much just means that we can date younger women as we get older.

Sure, it’s a pain to be the gender who has to make the first move, the one risking rejection with every opening line. But that also means that we make the choices and we’re in control of what we want. When you’re dating, would you rather be the one making the call or the one waiting by the phone? Sure you might be rejected or laughed at or told to get lost, but so what? At least you weren’t ignored or passed over in a frantic bid to catch someone’s eye.

And then there’s…
Okay, so women live longer, and they move more gracefully, and they have curves in all the right places, and they can make us go weak in the knees with a single glance. They’re the care givers and the nurturers and ones we can depend on when our egos get bruised.

But we’re men! Manly men in control of our dating destinies! Able to quick search and find quality single women night and day. Able to Search for local singles and locate a girl who’s willing to put up with all our testosterone.

Ain’t it great to be a guy?
