What is it about writing love letters that makes us so anxious? Suddenly, we think we should compete with Shakespeare and use words like "shall" and "thee." But in reality, our loved ones aren't judging; what they long for comes from the heart — your heart.

The next time you start a romantic email, remember these three components to great love letters:

1. Make the recipient feel special.
Begin by telling him or her what attracted you in the first place. What are the reasons you're falling (or maybe already fell) for your sweetheart? Your list probably starts with physical attributes: piercing eyes, a warm smile, a beautiful body. None of us ever get tired of hearing we're physically attractive.

Next move on to personality traits. When you tell other people about him or her, what things do you mention? It's funny the way we often tell our friends why we're in love, but we forget to tell the object of our affection! Think about the ways he or she interacts with people: Is she generous? Patient? Kind? Great with kids? Funny? Talented? Is he sexy? Humble? Intelligent? A good listener?

2. Show your appreciation.
Describe how your honey enriches your life. Often, we remember to say thanks for the big things — like birthday presents — but we don't always mention the little things. Here's your chance to say thanks for that time she stayed up all night to help you clean for guests or when he cooked dinner because you were running late. And remember all the daily chores, the fun dates, the sexual enjoyment, and help with problem solving.

3. Convey the importance of the relationship.
Think about your life before you met your match. What it would be like without him or her? What would you miss? Describe how your life has changed for the better because he or she is in it. If this is a committed relationship, tell your significant other why you're proud to be a couple. Even when words like "forever" and "always" feel like too much, you could write, "There's no one I would rather be with right now," "You're an important part of my life," or even, "I'm so glad I met you."

Whether it's a sticky-note on the fridge or a ten-page email, your love letter can really make someone's day.
